Il designer Yair Neuman ha fondato lo studio anythingby un anno fa a Soho, Londra.
Lo studio si concentra sullo sviluppo di prodotti e concetti che uniscono tecnologia e materiali sorprendenti. 
Con mestiere e senso dell'umorismo creano oggetti di uso quotidiano, collaborando con esperti di elettronica e di audio che li aiutano a trasformare le idee in realtà.  
Oltre alle Casse in Ceramica Josiah e al Bread Stool (lett: Sgabello di Pane) entrambi esibiti a Milano, stanno lavorando agli Shell Speakers, ad una serie di luci da parete, e ad un giradischi di gomma per Moshi Moshi Records.

Yair Neuman si è ritrovato a lavorare come designer dopo anni passati a costruire modelli, fare musica e in generale ad indulgere in un insaziabile appetito per le invenzioni. Dopo aver gestito per tre anni il proprio studio di prototipi, ha frequentato l’Accademia del Design a Eindhoven, in Olanda. Ha poi studiato al Ravensbourne college, arrivando così a Londra, dove si è poi fermato. Dopo uno stage di otto mesi presso lo studio di Ron Arad, Yair ha cominciato a lavorare come designer e ricercatore per una serie di progetti, uno fra tanti, la partecipazione ad una think-tank sulla user experience per la Samsung.
Da quando ha fondato lo studio anythingby, il suo lavoro è stato esposto in varie fiere, tra cui il London Design Festival and il MWC a Barcellona.

Lo studio anythingby è sovvenzionato dall'agenzia d’incubazione d’impresa Kwamecorp.  
Kwamecorp è stata creata da un collettivo d’individui con lo scopo di creare imprese sostenibili che promuovano una società più focalizzata, trasparente e aperta. Sostiene una serie di startups tecnologiche e innovative, aiutandole a crescere come imprese autonome.

Josiah Ceramic Speaker
Josiah è il risultato di una simbiosi tra industria vecchia e nuova - audio in streaming wireless, superficie a contatto interattivo e la tecnologia di accoppiamento del Bluetooth sono raccolti  in un involucro di ceramica.

Ogni cassa Josiah è realizzata a mano da artigiani tradizionali nella capitale  inglese dei vasai, Stoke-On-Trent. In quest'area si produce ceramica dal Diciassettesimo secolo e la struttura per Josiah viene realizzata proprio nello stesso mondo in cui piatti e teiere sono stati manufatti per centinaia d'anni.

Josiah ha tutto ciò che ti serve per ascoltare la musica in bagno, in cucina o nello studio. Non ha troppe funzioni e non è inutilmente complicato. Avendo batterie ricaricabili che durano 8 ore, non ha bisogno di cavi e il suo ricevitore Bluetooth capta segnali da dispositivi mobili fino a una distanza di 15 metri.

Yair Neuman ha collaborato con esperti di elettronica e ingegneri audio per ideare un sistema sonoro che si adatti al meglio al materiale. Pulsanti e luci, fin troppo comuni nelle casse senza fili, sono stati sostituiti da sensori a pressione e discreti segnali sonori. Con le qualità proprie di un sistema audio all'avanguardia e le caratteristiche di un classico prodotto artigianale, crediamo che Josiah sia assolutamente unico.

 

Bread Stool
Le sedute, fatte di mattoni di pane concentrato, sono il primo prodotto che Yair Neuman ha creato per la serie "use by" (lett: "da usare entro"). Invece di aspirare alla creazione di oggetti senza tempo, gli oggetti "use by" sono creati con una data di scadenza. Usando materiali biodegradabili ed eliminando così qualsiasi ingrediente tossico dal processo produttivo, la vita del manufatto segue il ciclo vitale della natura e un giorno tornerà a essere sale e farina.
Questi prodotti biodegradabili hanno degli ovvi vantaggi per l’ambiente - anche se l’utilizzo d’ingredienti edibili per creare oggetti che non si possono mangiare solleva questioni più spinose sulla sostenibilità e le nostre scelte di materiali nel mondo d'oggi. 

Lo sgabello è fatto di centinaia di mattoni di pane cotti separatamente in stampi di legno, tagliati della dimensione desiderata e incollati insieme. La superficie è poi passata attraverso la CNC machine conferendogli la sua forma finale.

Il materiale è stato creato per durare dai 4 ai 7 anni prima che inizi a perdere la forma e deteriorare in polvere.

 

Ricetta per un mattone di pane:
400 gr. di Farina integrale
50 gr di Sale
1 cucchiaino di olio vegetale

Mescolare il tutto e metterlo in uno stampo. Cuocere nel forno a microonde alla massima potenza in 3 cicli di 4 minuti.

Temporary Museum for New Design, Superstudio, 7th-13th April, Milan 2014

Designer Yair Neuman founded anythingby studio last year in Soho, London. The studio focuses on the development of products and concepts that marry technology with surprising materials. They use craft and humour to create objects for daily use, partnering up with electronics and audio experts to help turn ideas into reality. Apart from the Josiah Ceramic Speakers and the Bread Stool shown at Superstudio in Milan 2014, they are working on their Shells Headspeakers, a series of wall lights and a rubber turntable for Moshi Moshi Records.

Yair Neuman found his way to design via years of model making, music making and an insatiable appetite for invention. After three years of running his own prototyping studio, he attended the Design Academy Eindhoven, The Netherlands. He then studied at Ravensbourne college, a move which brought him to London where he is now based. Following an eight month work placement at Ron Arad Studio, Yair worked as a designer-researcher on a number of projects, amongst them a user experience think-tank for Samsung. Since founding anythingby studio his work has been exhibited in various fairs including the London Design Festival and MWC Barcelona.

anythingby studio is supported by start-up incubation agency Kwamecorp.
Kwamecorp was put together by a collective of individuals to create sustainable businesses that promote a more focused, transparent and open society. It incubates technological and innovative startups to helps them grow as standalone businesses.

 

Josiah Ceramic Speaker
Josiah is the symbiosis between old and new industry – wireless audio streaming, interactive touch surfaces and Bluetooth tap pairing technology housed in ceramic casing. Each Josiah speaker is handcrafted by traditional artisans in the English potters’ capital of Stoke-on-Trent. Ceramics have been produced in the area since the 17th century and the casing for Josiah is made in the very same way that plates and teapots have been crafted there for hundreds of years.

Josiah has all you need to enjoy music in the bathroom, kitchen or study. It is not over-functional or over-complicated. Eight hours of playing time on the rechargeable battery frees Josiah from wires, and its Bluetooth receiver picks up the audio signal of your mobile device from a distance of up to fifteen metres. Yair Neuman collaborated with electronics experts and audio engineers to design a sound system that would best suit the material. Buttons and flashing lights, too common in wireless speakers, were replaced by touch sensors and soft notification tones. With the features of a state-of-the-art audio product and the characteristics of a classic artifact, we believe Josiah is truly unique.

 

 

Bread Stool
Seating pieces, made of condense bread bricks, are the first items from Yair Neuman’s Use By series. Instead of aiming to create timeless pieces, the Use By objects are designed to have an expiry date. By using biodegradable materials and eliminating any toxic ingredients from the production process, the product’s lifetime follows nature’s life cycle and will one day return to being salt and flour. These biodegradable products have obvious environmental advantages - though by using food ingredients to create inedible objects raises trickier questions about sustainability and our choice of materials in today’s world.

The stool exhibited is made of hundreds of bread bricks baked separately in wooden moulds, cut to size and glued together. The surface is then CNC machined into it’s final shape. The material is designed to last between 4 to 7 years before losing its form and deteriorate into dust.

One Bread Brick Recipe:
400g wholemeal flour
50g salt
1tsp vegetable oil

Mix and fit into mould
Microwave full heat for 4 minutes in 3 cycles
